My views on abortion

On the issue of reducing the time limits for when women can have terminations:
I am very unhappy with the fact that people choose to terminate at such late stages in pregnancy. It is very disturbing, however I think all political parties are not facing up to the real problem which is:
What makes some women decide to wait so late to terminate a pregnancy and to create a harrowing situation for all involved?

The anecdotal evidence and the little reading I have done on the matter, lead me to believe that many of these women suffer from mental health issues, and other cultural and social problems that we aren’t tackling. I think women who wait so long to terminate also have issues with motherhood and the best possible thing is to stop them from getting pregnant in the first place.

We also need to deal with the underlying problems such as poverty and poor mental health that stop those who can have very early terminations from doing so. The issue of the time limits is merely a symptom of a much bigger problem and if we want to reduce the number of abortions in this country, time limits, in my personal opinion are not the place to start.

I would most likely be voting based on recommendations and evidence from the different bodies that represent health professionals and patients.

On the issue of abortion, I would certainly classify myself as a pro-choice candidate
